Sarah Stollman is a Production Designer and currently the Head of Screen Design at AFTRS [Australian Film, Television and Radio School] in Sydney Australia.
She grew up in Chicago, Illinois, studied Architecture at Washington University in St. Louis Missouri, then moved to New York and soon began a career in Film making.
In the early days her work included designing the films of Todd Haynes [POISON], David O. Russell[HAIRWAY TO THE STARS], set decorating THE UNBELIEVABLE TRUTH with Hal Hartley, and working in the art department of John Water’s SERIAL MOM and Alan J. Pakula’s PELICAN BRIEF.
In 1993, Sarah moved from the U.S. to Melbourne, then Sydney in Australia. Subsequently designing many Australian films including WHAT I HAVE WRITTEN [John Hughes, 1995]; LIFE [Lawrence Johnston, 1996]; RADIANCE and ONE NIGHT THE MOON [Rachel Perkins, 1997 and 2000]; SOFTFRUIT [Christina Andreef 1998]; YOLGNU BOY [Stephen Johnson, 1999] and FOOTY LEGENDS [Khoa Do, 2005]. In addition, Sarah designed many Television and Documentary projects and Art Directed two Jackie Chan films shot in Australia [FIRST STRIKE and THE NICE GUY].
As Head of Screen Design at AFTRS, Sarah has developed the new program for 2010 that includes the following courses: Graduate Diploma in Production Design, Graduate Certificate in Art Direction, and Graduate Certificate in Costume Design.
